The Legend of Wied Speranza

According to this legend a young girl and her sisters were in the fields taking care of the family sheep when they saw a group of Turks approaching them.

The girls started running away, but the youngest could not run enough since she was limp.

The story says that the girl arrived near a cave in which she went hiding. The girl was scared and she prayed heartily to Our Lady.

The legend goes on saying that Our Lady immediately intervened and sent a spider to weave a web over the opening of the cave.

When the Turkish invaders arrived near the cave entrance they saw it covered with an intact cobweb and so they assumed nobody had been inside for a long time.
