How can I protect the coast?

A few simple tips can go a long way towards safeguarding our coasts. These include the following:

Avoid taking and throwing away plastics and other waste at the coast (e.g. on beaches, rocky shores, etc).
If you travel abroad and go to the coast, participate in responsible, sustainable ecotourism ventures only, e.g. trekking, bike hikes, and avoid harmful activities such as offroading.
When traveling abroad, ask your parents to choose environmentally-friendly hotels which save on water and on energy. Many of these hotels would have the label Eco-Travel or something of the sort
Respect animals and plants found at the coast – e.g. do not trample on sand dune plants when at the beach and do not scrape off animals (such as limpets) or algae when on a rocky shore.
Try to teach individuals not to discharge their waste oils from boats or sewage from their caravans or coastal dwellings.
If you are on the beach and hear people grumbling about the stench coming from banquettes, try to teach them about the importance of banquettes to the coastal ecosystem.
