Vessels have conducted long voyages of trade and exploration for centuries – however, recently, maritime traffic has increased greatly. As a result, the marine environment is suffering from a number of impacts…
Impact of anchoring on seagrass meadows – seagrass meadows and delicate corals are the most vulnerable to the impacts of anchoring, which results in direct physical damage to marine organisms and to the detachment of marine vegetation. The use of mooring buoys in protected marine areas is increasing in order to reduce such an impact – vessels would tie a rope around these buoys rather than dropping anchor.
