The total length of the world's coastline is around 350,000km i.e. roughly equal to the distance between the Earth and the Moon!
Despite their small size, the total length of the coastline of the Maltese Islands is ca. 210 km i.e. you would need 3 or 4 days to walk at a steady pace the entire coastline of the islands.
Circa 70% of the total global coastline is composed of sandy beaches.
It is estimated that hundreds of kilometres of coastline are eroded globally each year.
