The IOI-Malta Operational Centre of the University of Malta recently awarded the winning IOI-Kids Marine Talent Competition for Teachers submissions. The competition sought quality marine-related contributions by individuals involved directly or indirectly in the educational sector to bolster the educational content of the IOI-Kids website.
In fact, the competition was the latest in a string of competitions organized by the IOI-MOC as part of its commitment to implement the IOI-Kids project. All submissions for the competition had to adopt an appealing visual format which was congenial for online hosting and had to address a specific aspect of the marine environment, which could range from marine discoveries, marine personalities, marine habitats and species, the human impact on the seas, including climate change, and marine places of interest.
The competition was open to all local schools and to individual and team submissions. The winning submission was compiled by Godfrey and Louise Grima from St. Augustine College and addressed, in innovative ways, different aspects of the marine pollution problem, besides proposing measures for schoolchildren to help mitigate the problem. This submission was awarded with complimentary flights to a European destination, courtesy of TriStar Travel.
